Why We Started This Service
The Watch Database was founded after a watch deal went very wrong. The founder had met in a secure place with lots of CCTV to sell a watch to someone that appeared credible. The buyer attempted a bank transfer scan and after insisting that we wait until the transfer was complete after sometime they fled with the watch.
After reporting to the police we quickly jumped online to register the watch to every watch database we could find. A few hard to find free options were available, but the most populate visible options were expensive to list. This got us thinking, the odds of having a consumer searching a database they have to pay for is unlikely. This is where the idea for The Watch Database came from, we wanted to be the first free watch database that uses paid advertising and word of mouth to get people to use a watch database before purchasing a watch privately.
To fund the advertising we added the monitoring service, a low cost way of getting some peace of mind knowing that we are looking for your watch.
We believe that by working together—owners, dealers, and enthusiasts—we can make it much harder for stolen watches to be resold and much easier for rightful owners to get them back.
